Welcome to Highlands Fire Department

The Highlands Fire Department is an all Volunteer Organization that proudly protects an estimated 5,000 people living in an area of one square mile. Located in Highlands, NJ we operate out of one station that protects a primarily residential area. The department consists of 50 members, but is always looking to grow. The department was founded in 1900 and is composed of two companies Columbia Hose Company No. 1 & Star Hook and Ladder Company No. 2. We answer structure, brush, car and boat fire calls along with motor vehicle extrication.

Globe Gear Giveaway

Monday, July 21, 2014  The members of the Highlands Fire Department (HFD) are always working on innovative ways to help the ever struggling financial burdens brought to the Borough of Highlands. In the beginning of the year HFD applied for the Globe Gear Giveaway sponsored by Globe, DuPont and NVFC. It comes with great happiness we are able to announce that all three organizations have chosen HFD to receive this Giveaway. The Giveaway amounts to an $8,000 savings to the Borough of Highlands. We look forward to outfitting our members with the latest in PPE along with staying compliant with NFPA.

HFD Robert Wilson Toys for Tots

Sunday, December 22, 2013  This year’s HFD Robert Wilson Toys for Tots drive was a great success. With the effects of Hurricane Sandy still lingering with the families of Highlands the kids were overly grateful for a day of fun with Santa. In HFD tradition all kids left the firehouse with at least two toys in their hands and of course lots of sugar via cookies, candy canes and hot chocolate. We thank all of our sponsors this year, to name just a few: Yorktel, Watnong VFW Post No 3401 and Bay Ave Bakery & Café.

Please visit the Photo’s section of the site.

HFD takes Delivery

Friday, August 30, 2013   The Highlands Fire Department is proud to take delivery of the NEW 17-90. We commend all of those who worked so hard on this project. The last time HFD took delivery of new apparatus was 18 years ago with the addition of 17-77 and the last time we took delivery of a ladder truck was 35 years ago! We are extremely excited to put her into service. The next step will be training to get all personnel up to speed with the new technology that is incorporated into this piece of apparatus.

HFD ANNUAL FUND DRIVE

Wednesday, August 21, 2013  Dear Friends and Neighbors:

As we are all painfully aware, our community has been devastated by Super Storm Sandy. While we are thankful that all of our residents survived the storm, we must not forget the many members of our community who lost everything they own, while our community is in the process of rebuilding, we need to ensure that we are rebuilding safer and stronger.
During the Super Storm Sandy event the Highlands Fire Department rescued over 100 residents from their homes and brought them to safety, in addition to the rescues we also responded to over 300 calls for service during that time. It was the hard work and dedication of the First Responders and the Office of Emergency Management that kept our residents safe.
The members of the Highlands Volunteer Fire Department (HFD) request your support for our Annual Fund Drive. Your contribution is vital toward helping us meet the cost essential to our effectiveness and your safety.
We rely on your generous tax-deductible donation to continue our level of service.
The commitment and dedication of our members has never been greater, and we greatly appreciate your continued community spirit and any financial support that can be given at this time.

Sincerely,
William Kane
Chief Highlands Fire Department
